Spraygun primer and putty
Sprayguns primers & putty: the essentials
The primer and putty sprayguns are tools dedicated to undercoats: filling, leveling, and defect correction before applying the base color and clears. Choosing the right equipment ensures a smooth surface, time savings in sanding, and controlled product consumption.
Types of sprayguns
- Gravity feed primer spraygun – 1.8 mm nozzle: ideal for spraying HS/HV filling primers. The HVLP technology ensures high material transfer and limits overspray. Its lightness preserves operator comfort over large surfaces.
- Sprayable putty spraygun – 2.5 mm nozzle: designed for sprayable polyester putties, denser than classic primers. The wider product passage prevents clogging and offers uniform application, even on vertical parts.
- Dynamic mixing system (DMS): specific head allowing mixing of resin and hardener at the spraygun outlet. Ideal for high-volume workshops seeking precise dosing and reduced cleaning.
- Cartridge spraygun: compact solution accommodating pre-dosed putty cartridges; perfect for quick touch-ups and localized repairs.
Choosing your nozzle & pressure
The 1.8 mm nozzle covers 90% of body primers; the 2.5 mm nozzle is recommended for sprayable putties. Work at 2 bar input pressure for recent HVLP sprayguns; adjust air pressure and product flow directly on the handle to obtain a uniform pattern and limit over-application.
Workshop advantages
- Ergonomics: balanced handle, soft trigger, reduced fatigue.
- Versatility: the same chassis can receive different nozzles to switch from primer to putty.
- Easy maintenance: brass cap, stainless steel needles, and dedicated cleaning kit ensure extended lifespan.
- Productivity: high flow rate, generous pattern, and controlled air consumption reduce booth time.
Best practices
- Always filter the primer or putty before filling the holder.
- Respect film thickness: two "wet-on-wet" passes for primer, one to two for putty.
- Clean the spraygun after each session with an appropriate thinner to avoid dried residues.
- Regularly check the holder seal tightness and replace wear parts.
With a rigorous selection of primer & putty sprayguns, ColorBox offers you the reliability, precision, and productivity essential for a professional result.
