Its goal is to provide body shops and professional painters with top-performing paint products. In this sense, Lesonal primers make a difference with their innovative formulas. Because the automotive sector is constantly evolving, the brand strives to offer cutting-edge solutions. Lesonal primers guarantee a perfect finish and proven results on any repairs. Large or small surfaces, you can always count on Lesonal primers to protect your bodywork.
What is the purpose of a primer?
The primer is an industrial product that allows new paint to adhere to the surface to be repaired. Applying the paint layer directly on a substrate may not guarantee a uniform result, and the paint may not hold. The primer:
- masks imperfections;
- creates a stable surface to receive the new coat of paint;
- extends the lifespan of the paint;
- ensures a flawless and well-finished final result.
The conditions for applying a primer
Applying an undercoat of primer before painting is highly recommended. Its addition is sometimes essential to avoid ruining your work and to achieve a quality finish, especially if:
- the surface is porous, requiring multiple coats of paint and increasing waste;
- the surface is too smooth and does not allow the paint to adhere;
- you are painting this bodywork for the first time;
- you are transitioning from a dark shade to a light shade (or vice versa);
- you are using water-based paint over an old oil-based paint.
How to choose a primer?
The choice of primer depends on your bodywork substrate, usage, and the paint to be applied. We distinguish:
- Water-based primers: eco-friendly and quick-drying.
- Oil-based primers: suitable for surfaces where water-based primers are not appropriate.
Several shades of primer are available depending on the final color:
- Light primers for light shades.
- Dark grey or black primers for dark shades.

- cover the entire area evenly;
- apply several coats according to the packaging instructions;
- allow to dry between each coat;
- sand, clean, and rinse before the paint layer;
