Abrasive disc
What is an abrasive disc?
The abrasive disc is a hard and sharp tool designed to sand surfaces. Composed of abrasive grains, binders, and backings, it removes imperfections through mechanical action, manually or with the help of a sander. Used in bodywork, it allows work on plastic, metal, or after the application of a primer, paint, putty, or clear.
How to use an abrasive disc?
The disc is used with a sander, attached to a pad via a self-adhesive velcro surface. For optimal results, the disc must match the dimensions of the pad. An interface can be used for more flexibility. It can also be used manually with a hand block.
What is the purpose of an abrasive disc?
It allows you to polish the surface of the bodywork to achieve a smooth and uniform finish. It is an essential step, whether for a major repair or a minor touch-up, to correct scratches, smudges, or defects related to previous interventions.
Which abrasive disc for which use?
Each abrasive grain corresponds to a specific use:
- P40 to P150: stripping or roughing of the bodywork.
- P200 to P400: correction of residual defects after roughing.
- P80 to P240: sanding of putty (polyester, plastic, universal).
- P360 to P500: sanding of primers.
- P800 to P1000: work on paint or clear.
- P1000 and above: very fine and careful finishing.
Usage tips
- Start with a coarse grain and progress to fine grains.
- Begin sanding at reduced speed to avoid overheating.
- Use a vacuum to remove the generated dust.
- Wear a mask and gloves for your protection.
- Vary the grains to prevent premature clogging of the disc.
