Everything You Need to Know About Weltlack Primer

Thanks to its unique and high-performance formula, the Weltlack primer ensures a smooth surface, optimal adhesion, and a flawless finish for all your automotive painting projects.

What Is Weltlack Primer?

The Weltlack primer is an undercoat used in the automotive industry to:

  • Prepare and even out the body surface before painting

  • Improve the adhesion of the topcoat

  • Protect against corrosion, UV rays, and weather conditions

There are several types of Weltlack primers, depending on the substrate and paint to be applied — acrylic, epoxy, polyester, and more.

Why Use Weltlack Primer?

  • Improved adhesion: creates a smooth, uniform surface to prevent peeling.

  • Anti-corrosion protection: shields metal panels from rust, UV exposure, and humidity.

  • Surface correction: fills minor scratches, dents, and imperfections for a professional finish.

Types of Weltlack Primers

  • Acrylic primer: water-based, fast-drying, and easy to sand.

  • Epoxy primer: epoxy resin-based, highly resistant to corrosion and chemicals.

  • Polyester primer: polyester resin-based, ideal for fiberglass and highly durable.

  • High-solids primer: high particle concentration for superior coverage and filling power.

How to Apply Weltlack Primer

  1. Prepare the surface: sand, degrease, and remove rust or contaminants.

  2. Repair defects: fill in scratches and dents before application.

  3. Spray application: use a paint gun held 15–20 cm from the surface, applying thin, even coats.

  4. Drying: allow the proper drying time between coats, as recommended by the manufacturer.

  5. Light sanding: once dry, lightly sand with fine-grit paper to remove minor irregularities without damaging the primer.

  6. Clean and dust off: before applying the final layer of paint.
