Mixing Ratios
With sanding (Sanding)
- Volume ratio: 3 Autosurfacer Optima : 1 Hardener Sanding : 1 Reducer Sanding (Fast/Medium/Slow)
- Mixing order: add the hardener first and stir, then the thinner and stir again
- Shades of gray: White / Gray / Dark Gray mixable (Quick-Mix table)
Without sanding (Non Sanding)
- Volume ratio: 3 Autosurfacer Optima : 1 Hardener Non Sanding : 2 Reducer Non Sanding (Medium/Slow)
- Mixing order: same sequence as above
Application
Surface Preparation
- Degrease then final dry sanding: metal ≈ P320 · finish areas P500 (P600 recommended on dark shades)
- Avoid any contact of exposed primer with water (e.g., water-based degreaser)
- Plastics: pre-treat/sand/clean + suitable adhesion promoter
Spray Gun Settings (gravity)
- Sanding: nozzle 1.6–1.8 mm · 1.7–2.0 bar at the air cap · HVLP 8–10 psi at the nozzle
- Non Sanding: nozzle 1.2–1.4 mm · 1.7–2.0 bar at the air inlet · HVLP 0.6–0.7 bar (8–10 psi) at the nozzle
Application Process
- Sanding – touch-up/spot: 1 thin closed coat (wait until matte ~1–3 min) + 1–2 full coats without intermediate evaporation
- Sanding – full element: 1 thin closed coat (wait until matte ~1–3 min) + 2 full wet coats without evaporation
- Non Sanding: 1 full coat sprayed over the entire area
Scuffing & Sanding
- Sanding: by hand P400 (exception S8.06.02) · finish P500/P600
- Non Sanding: small defects: P800 dry or P1000 wet (if > 24 h, careful sanding is required)
Workshop Benefits
- Ultra-short cycles (air, 60 °C or IR) for maximum productivity
- Flexible application: sandable / non-sandable versions according to workflow
- Very good corrosion resistance (direct to metal application possible in Sanding/Non Sanding*)
- Smooth finish enhancing the appearance of basecoats and clears
*For highly exposed surfaces, prefer pre-treatment (Autoprep wipes or Washprimer 1K CF) before priming.
Safety & Storage
- Use appropriate PPE: gloves, goggles, and air-fed respirator
- Store closed at ~20 °C, away from extreme temperatures – Shelf life 12 months (all variants)
- Equipment cleaning: Sikkens solvents / Guncleaner cleaners
About
Designed for demanding body shops, Autosurfacer Optima reduces downtime and limits touch-ups thanks to fast sanding and stable application.
Its extensive compatibility (bare metal, e-coat, primed plastics) and Sanding / Non Sanding versions make it a reference 2K primer for IR and 60 °C baking processes.
Ideal in combination with Sikkens Autowave, Autobase Plus, and Autocryl finishing systems for reproducible and durable results.
