What is the Ixell primer?

What is it used for?

1. Improved adhesion: The Ixell primer is designed to prepare a smooth and uniform surface for the topcoat. This allows the latter to better adhere to the surface and resist damage and wear related to daily driving.
2. Protection against corrosion: The Ixell primer is also designed to provide car bodies with high protection against corrosion. Indeed, the primer layer forms a protective barrier that prevents rust formation and helps avoid damage caused by water and chemicals.
3. Color uniformity: The Ixell primer can help even out the color of the body by preparing a uniform base for the topcoat. This allows for a smoother surface and a more uniform paint finish.
4. The reduction of imperfections: The Ixell primer is an automotive coating product that helps minimize imperfections on the body surface, such as dents, scratches, and scuffs. It can fill small holes and minor defects to prepare a smooth and even surface for the topcoat.

What are the main types of Ixell primer?

1. Ixell 1K primer: This is a one-component primer that does not need to be mixed with other chemicals. It is easy to use and quick drying. However, it is less resistant to abrasion and corrosion than other types of Ixell primer.
2. Ixell 2K HS primer: This is a two-component primer that offers excellent adhesion and high corrosion resistance. It consists of two main parts: a resin part and a hardener part.

How can the Ixell primer be used?

• Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of rust, grease, and dirt before applying the product
• Thin the primer with the appropriate solvent if it is too thick to spray easily (read the manufacturer's instructions to know if the primer can be thinned or not)
• Apply the primer in several light coats using a spray gun, respecting the drying time between each coat
• Make sure to spray the primer evenly while avoiding areas of over-spraying.
• Let the primer dry completely (the drying time is mentioned in the manufacturer's instruction sheet)
• Once dry, lightly sand the surface to achieve a smooth finish and try to minimize paint imperfections as much as possible
• Once the primer is dry and sanded, apply the topcoat paint (make sure to choose the paint compatible with the Ixell primer you used)
